The great outdoors can be a beautiful respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you’re looking for a place to unplug and reconnect with nature, camping trips are an excellent option. But where should you go? Here are some of my favorite places to camp in Michigan:
Sleepy Hollow State Park
Sleepy Hollow State Park is located in Benzie County, Michigan. It has a lot of great hiking trails and it’s also a great place to go biking. This park has many opportunities for swimming, as well as cabins available to rent out or stay at the campsites. There are many restaurants around the area, so you can get some good food before heading back into your cabin or tent!
Rifle River State Recreation Area
Rifle River State Recreation Area is located in the northernmost part of Michigan and is home to the Rifle River, which runs through the park. The area’s signature features are its camping spots, which offer beautiful views of the river as well as nearby forests and fields.
When you get there, you’ll want to bring your tent or RV along with any other supplies you’ll want for your stay. Campsites at Rifle River are first-come first-serve but tend to fill up quickly in peak season so it’s best to make an online reservation if possible. If not, call ahead to check availability before heading out there!

Peterson Park in Curtis, MI
Peterson Park is a great place to go camping if you want to get away from the city and explore some of the most beautiful areas in Michigan. Located in Curtis, MI, this park offers several types of campsites including tent sites, RV hookups and cabins. The park also has amenities such as bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities that are clean and well maintained by staff members who take pride in their work.
Peterson Park’s special feature is its proximity to Lake Huron—you can see it right out your window! It’s also close enough for easy access to nearby beaches along Lake Huron where you can enjoy swimming or fishing activities on your days off from exploring the park itself during your stay at Peterson Campground & RV Resort. Peterson boasts various hiking trails through forests filled with pine trees as far as the eye can see – perfect for those looking for an escape from big cities but still want access to urban areas when they want it
Tahquamenon Falls State Park
Tahquamenon Falls State Park is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, near Paradise and Newberry. It’s a great place to camp if you’re looking for something that’s off the beaten path, but still close enough to major cities like Detroit and Chicago.
The park offers over 200 campsites near Tahquamenon Falls, as well as hiking trails along the river. There are also other activities available like fishing, swimming, tubing and canoeing on the river.[1] The park has two main campgrounds: Campground A offers electric sites for $22 per night while Campground B does not have electricity available at all.[2] However both offer access to restrooms with hot showers nearby.[3][4]
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, located in the western Lake Superior region of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, is a great place to camp and enjoy the outdoors. Here you can hike, fish, kayak on the beach or sand dunes and more! There are many campsites available ranging from primitive to modern amenities.
There are many other places nearby that you can visit while staying at Pictured Rocks including: Sand Island Campground (located right next door), Munising Falls Campground (about 30 minutes away), Grand Marais Harbor/Beachfront RV Park & Campground (about an hour away) and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park which is about 2 hours away but has some amazing hiking trails with views of Lake Superior!

Wilderness State Park is located in northern Michigan, just a few miles from Traverse City. With over 100 miles of trails and hundreds of campsites, there’s plenty to see and do in this beautiful park.
The beach at Wilderness State Park is one of the most popular spots for camping in Michigan. You can fish or swim in Lake Superior, watch wildlife from the sand dunes, or take advantage of all the other activities offered at this beautiful beachfront location (including campfires). The park also has excellent hiking trails for those who want to explore on foot – or bike! And if you’re looking for something more relaxing than camping out under the stars but still want to experience nature up close and personal? The cabins at Wilderness State Park have everything you need right at your fingertips!
